The fonds consists of materials created and collected by Francie Nobleman, primarily having to do with Mitzvah Day, an annual event in the Edmonton Jewish Community. The material includes minutes, flyers, newspaper articles and instructional materials. This event was co-sponsored by several organizations, including Temple Beth Ora, the Jewish Community Centre, Jewish Family Services and the Jewish Federation of Edmonton, and chaired by Francie Nobleman for 11 years. The event collected donations of goods, clothing, toiletries, household items, furniture and cash, and distributed them to various charities in the Edmonton area including Women's Shelters, the Food Bank, Africa We Care, the Bissell Centre, etc. It took place every November at the JCC. There are also materials relating to Temple Beth Ora and to the Edmonton Jewish Community Centre Recreation Committee, and to the Jewish Federation of Edmonton. Francie was born in Calgary and attended the Talmud Torah school there. She was actively involved in many Edmonton Jewish causes including Talmud Torah, the JCC, Beth Shalom Synagogue, Temple Beth Ora and Edmonton Hadassah-WIZO and CanSurmount. A social worker by training, she is married to Jon Nobleman, who is the current Executive Director of the Edmonton branch of the Jewish National Fund, and has three children: Josh, Ben and Robin.
