In this adjudicated workshop, participants examined the medium of television- including audiences, distribution and financing- and emerged with a writing sample suitable for submission to those who make programming decisions in the series television industry. This workshop was designed to help intermediate and senior professional writers develop the skills and credentials they need to qualify for work in Canadian series television. Participants had the opportunity to interact with Canadian television writer/story editor Maureen McKeon, executive story editor for "Traders". "Writing for Interactive Media" : [agenda]

File consists of two copies of an agenda for the workshop, and one draft copy. The workshop ran July 26-28, 2002, and the program description reads: "The aim of the Writing for Interactive Media workshop was to inspire the creation of new forms of storytelling and writing. Combining brainstorming and writing exercises with lectures and discussions, the workshop explored the aesthetics and practice of interactive writing, placing it within its historical and philosophical framework. Ultimately, this workshop asked whether we can subsume the idea of interactivity to that of interpretation. Interactive writing borrows from the values and powers of film, theatre, and literature, and can be conceived of, critically and practically, in the larger context of storytelling. The workshop explored the rhetoric of the computer, multimedia, and interactivity, and presented, through case studies and lectures, conceptualization, visualization, and production processes for interactive writing. We looked at the whole range of new media writing, from Web copy to procedural writing, information architecture to interaction design. Concept documents, proposals, storyboards, information architectures, scriptwriting, editorial processes, and software tools were examined in turn. Participants were encouraged to bring a current project or treatment to the workshop."
