Wally and Doris Tansem fonds

The fonds consists of four photographs of the South Slope School and students taken during Doris Tansem’s time teaching in 1945-46; weekly issues of the Wanhamite, a community newspaper written by Wally Tansem and Lawrence Laughy; printed material authored by Wally Tansem; 20 aerial photographs of the Lassiter area north of Wanham; some news clippings; and Wally’s research files for his self-published book “Foulest of Murders”.

This fonds consists of records that were primarily generated from Bill Turnbull’s work as an educator, running enthusiast, and coach. Records consist of photographs, slides, correspondence, race results, memberships lists, meeting minutes, financials, route maps, newspaper clippings, event planning information, event programs, pamphlets, and application forms.

This fonds has been arranged into 16 series. Hermit Lake School History fonds

The fonds consists of a Hermit Lake School history book researched by Grace (Wishart) Stewart, a former teacher, when the school was moved to the museum. It was compiled by Ellen Craig and contains history of the school and community, lists of families and teachers, photographs, stories from former students, documents, news clippings, school census records (1937-1955) and a history of its becoming the pioneer school of Grande Prairie's Pioneer Museum in 1978.
An accrual, donated in 2013, contains original records compiled by Kay Dunlop after the 1978 reunion and added to a scrapbook by Ina Fee, who was also a student at Hermit Lake School. This scrapbook also contains news clippings related to the City of Grande Prairie, the Grande Prairie Museum, and people and history from the Grande Prairie area. There is also a circular list regarding an RCAF/WAAF Reunion held in Vancouver in 1976, which included several women from Grande Prairie.

The fonds consists of records related to the operations of the South Peace AIDS Council and the HIV North Society: executive records including by-laws and minutes of meetings; records related to educational material and events such as the AIDS Walk and summer programs; news clippings detailing the local attitudes and response to AIDS issues; subject files from the administration of the organization showing funding, planning and promotional activities, policies, presentation materials, and statistics; project files regarding short-term and long-term projects supported by the society; and relationships with associated organizations at the local, provincial and national level.

The fonds consists of farming records belonging to James A. Lillico including farm lease agreements, a permit book, promisory notes, invoices, daily market prices from the Alberta Wheat Pool for 1934, a Hudson's Bay Company map (1933) and 33 photographs of harvesting and families, schools and hospitals, parade floats, missions at Shaftesbury and Dunvegan, and the Dunvegan ferry.

The fonds consists of Elmer Borstad's personal papers, records as alderman and mayor including pages from a large scrapbook, records and photographs of involvement with the Chamber of Commerce and Northern Alberta Development Council, a scrapbook of records (1978-79) related to his nomination as candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party and subsequent election as MLA for Grande Prairie, a scrapbook of records as chairman of the QEII Foundation and head of the MRI capital campaign (1997-1999), and records of his chairmanship on the Capital Campaign Committee for building additional student residences at GPRC. There is also a mylared copy of a full-page 1959 advertisement "marking 12 years of service to Grande Prairie & District" , a booklet "The Canol Adventure" written by Mr. Borstad, and a photograph album detailing Elmer's involvement with RCSCC Micmac Squadron Sea Cadets (1955-1966), including photographs of the first Wrenette Corps in Alberta established in Grande Prairie in 1957.

The fonds consists of a copy of Robert Holmes’ memoirs concerning the trip made from Liverpool to the mission on the shores of Lesser Slave Lake in 1902; a copy of Jessie Holmes’ memoirs of the same trip, of their work and experiences at Slave Lake, Shaftesbury Trail, and Lake Saskatoon; 8 letters written by Jessie, Robert, Lizzie and George, dated 1902 to 1912; and 38 photographs of the family and scenes at their homes and missions.
