Prairie Squares Dance Club fonds

The fonds consists of one scrapbook with letters and news clippings about the 14,315 mile tour made by the Prairie Squares Swan throughout Canada and the United States. Also included is a history and a description of the Trumpeter Swan and an example of how it is used in City Publications.

The fonds consists of executive records regarding the formation and maintenance of the society; field records recording bird, mammal and wildflower counts; copies of the monthly newsletter, The Northern Naturalist; and copies of a collection of historical articles by F.M. Helleiner, who identified 180 bird species in the Grande Prairie area and wrote articles in the Herald-Tribune from 1953-1954. An embroidered crest, showing a trumpeter swan on a blue background, is included in the collection.

The fonds consists of 70 photographs taken by McDermid Studio on the Canadian Pacific Railway tour of the Peace Country in 1928. Subjects of the photographs include the Beaverlodge Experimental Station; the Trelle farm at Wembley; the Jack Thompson harvest east of Grande Prairie; the ranching operation of Mr. Early on the banks of the Peace River; roads, towns, and rural scenes en route; roads and buildings in Grande Prairie; and group photographs of the tour members. There is also a photograph of young Marion Pratt pinning a "Just Kids Safety" button on Lord Lovat, who was a member of the CPR delegation.

I.V. Macklin fonds

The fonds consists of photographs of I.V. Macklin as a high school graduate, a university graduate, in the U of T Glee Club, in Grande Prairie with his wife Nellie and Dr. & Mrs. Forbes, on the UFA Board of Directors, as a candidate for the CCF party, at an NDP convention, and as an elderly man at home. The written records consists of a 1910 U of T yearbook; a book of Alberta Cooperative Leaders; a booklet containing many of Macklin’s speeches and radio addresses, called Life is More Than Meat; and some newspaper articles about the life of I.V. Macklin written in 1971. An accrual included a Macklin historical record, "Macklin Road" by Kenneth Macklin.

Photographs are of the Robertson family, Dave’s career in the military and his service at an Advance Dressing Station in Korea. The audio tape is a Dave Robertson recording regarding his family’s military history.

The records consist of photographs and personal records from Patty and Rudy Croken and Jennie (Tomshak) Croken. They include P.V. Croken financial records from the P.V Croken Store; Patty’s correspondence from 1956-1973; personal income tax returns for Rudy & Jennie Croken from 1953-1958, and for Patty & Daisy Croken from 1958-1966; farm accounts and wheat board certificates; the papers for building Rudy & Jennie’s home in 1954; and two stories about living in Clairmont, and working in the Grande Prairie Post Office, written by Jennie Croken in 2014. The photographs are a wide assortment of subjects from the Peace Celebration in Grande Prairie in 1919, to Jennie on her travels in 1986.

East Smoky School Division No. 54 fonds

The fonds consists of one Capital Account Receipt Book from the East Smoky School Division for 1956-1961 which records debenture, grant and capital information; and financial records and Daily Registers from School Districts around DeBolt, some of the earliest districts in the division: Clarkson Valley (4663), Cornwall (4700), Darwin (4639), East Smoky (4198), Edson Trail (4082), Harper Creek (4968), Mountain Springs (4640), North Goodwin (5002), Ravenna (4822), Ridgevalley (4563), Simonette (4750), Smoky Valley (4682), Sturgeon Heights (4606), Sturgeon Lake (4858) and Valleyview (Calais, Sun Valley) School District 3992. The financial records consist mainly of Cash Books from before the formation of the East Smoky School Division, and detail receipts and expenses such as government grants, teachers’ salaries and building costs. The registers record the name, birth date, post office address, parents’ names and addresses of each pupil. There are Annual Financial Statements and Audited Reports, teachers’ declarations, yearly summaries called teachers’ returns, and transfer, attendance and promotion records. The research files and proof copy of the book Beginnings are also included with the collection.
