Dorothy Beattie, R.N.

Grad photograph for Dorothy Beattie. Dorothy graduated from the University of Alberta in 1950. She was 21 years old. She was Dorothy May Murray at the time of her graduation and married Bill Beattie in December 1950. Dorothy worked in Mayerthorpe Hospital as a new graduate nurse. She then moved to Grande Prairie where she worked in ICU, specialized in cardiology (took another course at the University of Alberta) part time for 3 years. After this she worked part time in extended care the Grande Prairie General Hospital for 7 years. In 1977 Dorothy worked for the WW Cross Cancer Clinic in Grande Prairie. They were a traveling clinic at that time and Dorothy was one of the first nurses to work for them. She retired from nursing in 1987.

Beaverlodge United Church

Postcard of Beaverlodge United Church about the time it was dedicated in 1929. Rev. Arthur Bentum was instrumental in building and raising money for this church, and it became known as Bentum United Church. On the back of the postcard is a note from "Jean", possibly the minister's wife or daughter as she writes about the manse next door as "our" house. The postcard is addressed to Mrs. Jas McAllister in Nashville, ON.

A photograph of James Robert McDonald and Kenneth Murray in their WWI uniforms. The men served in the 66th battalion in Edmonton.
James Robert McDonald was born March 29, 1885 in Woodstock, Ontario . James was a homesteaded on N.W. 14-71-9 to the Beaverlodge area arriving with Charles Edgerton. Charles and James set up a butcher shop and was one of the first people in that area to own a car. James served in WWI and returned to Beaverlodge after being injured in 1917.
