The fonds consists of professional and personal material created by retired Alberta Court of Queen's Bench Justice Russell A. Dixon from 1980-2001. The fonds consists of two series: 1. Reasons for Judgement (1980-1999). This series consists of Reasons for Judgment rulings by Justice Russell A. Dixon from 1980-1988 and 1995-1999, arranged chronologically by year. 2. Personal and professional documents (1980-2001). This series consists of newspaper articles written by Mr. Dixon, correspondence, awards, speeches, a photograph, cartoon drawings, reports, biographical notes, and other materials created or collected by Mr. Dixon. This series also includes an address given by Russell A. Dixon at the Legal Archives Society of Alberta Historical Dinner held in Calgary on October 17, 2001 and Edmonton on October 18, 2001. The theme of the dinners was "Lawyers at War". In his speech, Dixon reminiscences about his experience with the British Sixth Airborne Division, 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion during the Second World War. The address also includes a handout distributed to dinner attendees. The handout, also written by Dixon, includes the names of battalions in each division, their home base in Canada, the location of battles and casualty figures.

The fonds in divided into the following series: 1) Subject files, 1970-1985 and 2) Subject files, 1985-1996, which contain correspondence and information relating to judicial, professional, and personal topics; 3) Judge's notebooks, 1970-1997, containing notes taken at every trial and hearing at which Kerans presided; 4) Judgments, 1991-1997, consisting of copies of Kerans' Appeal Court judgments during this period, 5) Judgment files, 1995-1996, consisting of memoranda and communications among members of the Appeal Court relating to decisions on specific cases; 6) Day files, 1982-1997, containing copies of all outgoing correspondence; 7) Photographs of judges, events, and colleagues; and 8) Patents and Degrees, 1970-1996 consisting of original judicial commissions and honorary degrees.

Fonds consists primarily of records from Montgomery's judicial career from 1982-1998, and a few pre-judicial records. Tentative arrangement of the fonds identifies ten series: 1. Judge's notebooks, Calgary criminal cases 1983-1997. 2. Judge's notebooks, Calgary civil cases 1983-1997 3. Judge's notebooks for sittings outside Calgary 1983-1997. 4. Precedent Books 1961-1997. 5. Reasons for judgements 1983-1997. 6. Reference files on legal matters 1980s and 90s. 7. Pre-judicial career records 1940s-70s. 8. Court of Queen's Bench administration files and reference material 1983-98. 9. Special chambers applications and case management files 1987-97. 10. Court of appeal notes and judgements c. 1990-1997. The judge's notebooks and related files represent a substantial portion of the fonds. The notebooks series are somewhat unique in that they include many files on individual cases covered in the notebooks. Thus, the series include not only notes taken at trials, but also a variety of related correspondence and other documentation. Precedent books which Montgomery began to create during the 1960s as a practicing lawyer and continued to add to throughout his career also form a substantial portion of the fonds. Also of note in this fonds are a series of internal Queen's Bench administration files and reference material. The fonds includes other material as noted in series titles.

Norman M. Plummer fonds

Fonds consists of client files and personal files, which were maintained in a single numbered sequence. Most files numbered below 1000 are not extant, with the remaining files representing mainly the period 1934-1943. Client files cover a variety of cases. Most predominant are collections files, where Plummer acted as a collection agent for a 25% commission on all monies collected. Plummer acted as collection agent for a number of small merchants and for the Retail Merchants' Association. Others client files relate to divorce and custody issues, estates, land transfers, civil suits and criminal matters. In 1942, Plummer began to act as an agent for the Department of Justice in prosecuting breaches of Wartime Prices and Trade Board regulations. The records illustrate life in Calgary and various small Alberta towns during the depression of the 1930s and during WWII, and provide a view of the process of debt collection and of a small, struggling, one-man law practice.
