The Whitecourt cut-off and the Friendship Train of 1948 are two major issues in this collection. Two phonograph records promote the Whitecourt cut-off.

The fonds consists of 19 color photographs of the inaugural run on the Alberta Resources Railway—the three hour trip on the final day of the conference. Photographs show the train, the scenery and the dignitaries who were passengers on this trip. A few of the photographs are of a welcoming banquet at St. Joe’s High School and ceremonies marking the opening of the railway.

The fonds consists of a collection of farm booklets and 1 cm of farm business receipts belonging to Olaf Kildal and Ralph Johnson, dated 1929 to 1963, from Alberta Wheat Pool at Sexsmith; C L Larson, General Merchant, La Glace; P.M. Haugen Garage, LaGlace; Buffalo Lake General Store; Buffalo Lake Service Station; Shannon & Son, Sexsmith; Sexsmith Garage Co; Mac Perkins Garage, Sexsmith; Maple Leaf Garage, LaGlace; Olson's Garage, LaGlace; E.G. Edey Equipment, Sexsmith; McKinnon Equipment, Grande Prairie; UFA Co-op; and other miscellaneous receipts. The booklets, dating from 1920-1963 include Norweigen immigration literature from Olaf Kildal; Ration Recipe cookbook from WW II, Wheat Board permits and Alberta Hail Insurance Board booklets from the early 1950s, and information on Credit Unions published by the Credit Union League of Alberta. There is also a 1959 Prairie Farm Assistance Act Crop Report, a poster for an Allis-Chalmers tractor, and a report card from Northfield School.

The fonds consists of eleven maps related to the settlement of the area, dating from 1908-1981; ten plans for cemeteries in the County of Grande Prairie; two architectural plans for an expansion of the funeral home on 102 Street; and correspondence and plans for the creation of Wapiti Park ca. 1938.

Collection of photographs removed from a display, possibly created for the 25th anniversary of the City of Grande Prairie in 1983. The photographs were arranged mostly in date order, from the first business on the future site of Grande Prairie ca. 1907 to members of the Old Timers Association in 1963. The photographs were numbered in order of how they were arranged in the display, and that original order has been retained, along with the item descriptions which accompanied the photographs. Subjects include buildings, people and events associated with the history of Grande Prairie.

The fonds consists of records of the Spirit River Settlement Historical Society including executive records and records of their History Book Committee which consist of planning documents, financial records, minutes and correspondence, and original and/or edited copies of submissions to the Spirit River history book Chepi Sepe. The first sections of the Book Committee records include a history of the general region and the Spirit River Settlement area, the coming of settlers and the growth of agriculture, businesses, industries, municipal governments, the history of veterans of WWI and WWII, schools, churches, medical facilities, and cultural and recreational groups. The second main body of the records contains original and/or edited copies of over 630 family histories arranged in alphabetical order by surname.
