The fonds consists of approximately 34 linear metres (20,707 dockets) of photographic materials, each docket containing the negatives, and some proofs, of almost every photographic session or job undertaken by Freelance Photography. These include family portraits, wedding photos, graduation and other school pictures, photography for various clubs and organizations, and commercial and industrial sites. There are three card catalogues, one covering images taken from 1959-1961, another for 1962 to 1964, and one for those from 1978-1991. The interim period is arranged by category (portrait, commercial, etc.) and within is arranged alphabetically. Also included is a selection of newspaper advertisements and brochures for Freelance Photos Ltd., a small selection of brochures and booklets which were produced using images taken by Freelance. Also included are annual financial statements for the years 1960 to 1977. There are four series based on ownership, time period, and original arrangement. Series 3 consists of 5 sub-series.
First World War materials including letters from Department of Defence and Prime Minister’s office in response to recruiting a Medicine Hat legion; Medicine Hat Hospital annual reports (1901 and 1902); 1917 Medicine Ha Stampede souvenirs; theatre programs for Medicine Hat Amateur Operatic Society; biographical write-ups and articles about A.C. Hawthorne, natural gas etc.; copy of letter regarding possible name change for Medicine Hat; A.C. Hawthorne business papers including advertising, invoices, and receipts; Medicine Hat Bicycle Club invitation; 1352 photographs of late 19th century to mid 20th century Medicine Hat as well as members of the Hawthorne family and friends.
Fonds consists of: Alderman Lyle Flynn civic election materials and materials related to his time on City Council; promotional materials from Medicine Hat’s centennial; ephemera of the 1988 Winter Olympics; Programs from various local events; documents and photographs related to local curling and the involvement of Lyle and Simonne Flynn in the sport; correspondence from Lyle Flynn’s work with the National Advisory Council of Fitness and Sport; Lyle Flynn’s certificates, resume, and other paperwork demonstrating credentials; Simonne Flynn’s credentials including her nursing education; various speeches and supporting documents as delivered by Lyle Flynn; Flynn family history; photographs of family history, portraits, community events including arts and culture as well as curling; and various personal papers.
The fonds consists of: postcards (2) (ca. 1939-1945); newspaper clippings re: soldiers Oscar Albrecht, Cpl. Harold Jans (undated); death announcement of pioneer A.E. Barker (1941); 3 certificates of title belonging to Richard Dill Smith (1909-1914); 1 diploma belonging to Muriel Smith; images of family members in Medicine Hat; and an assortment of commemorative ribbons (most are duplicates of ones held by the Esplanade Museum).
The fonds consists of: an autograph album belonging to Mary Lancaster of Brighouse, Yorkshire (1903-1906); images of the Rushworth and Lancaster families; varous papers related to John Rushworth including military papers and death certificate, photos of John Rushworth and William Norman Tippett, and various clippings and write-ups.
