Early print collection

Collection illustrates the early development of movable type printing in Europe. Collection consists of printed books including a book of hours and a collection of Chaucer's works, as well as leaves from Bibles, hagiographies, liturgical texts, and works of history, literature, canon law, and botany.

Collection consists of manuscripts (books, leaves, and documents written by hand), mostly from medieval and early modern Europe. Most items were produced in Western and Southern Europe (France, England, Flanders, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Spain), although a few are from the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Many leaves are illuminated and feature decorative initials, borders, line fillers, etc. Most are in Latin, although a few are in medieval vernacular or other languages.

The collection is arranged in series by manuscript type: Books of hours, liturgical books (contains leaves from psalters, breviaries, antiphonals, and graduals), charters, Bibles, and canon law.

Brigadier-General Raymond Brutinel fonds

The fonds consists of photographs and postcards, Brutinel's personal papers, documents related to his properties, his family papers, and research material about his life. The photographs and postcards depict Brutinel, his family, his properties, and the Canadian Motor Machine Gun Corps. Brutinel's personal papers include records created during his lifetime, 1882-1964, which include general correspondence, operation reports from WWI, manuscripts and histories of the Machine Gun Corps, related newspaper articles, military and civic honours and certificates, and photographs. There are also legal and financial documents, maps and plans, and correspondence about purchase and sale of properties, Chateau de Couloume and Chateau de Bordaberry. Family papers include condolence letters and a collection of Brutinel's obituary from different newspapers. The research materials include different biographical sketches and manuscripts about Brutinel, genealogical research, and the Brutinels' marriage and divorce information. This fonds is arranged into five series: Photographs and postcards, Personal papers, Property, Family papers, and Research.

Three Types of French Soldiers

Pencil sketch by Marcel Durieux of the three types of French soldiers in World War: Legion, North African Trooper and Sharpshooter. The postcard is addressed to Gabriel Basly and states that Marcel Durieux was sending him "un petit croquis" as a souvenir and in thanks.

Gabriel Basly fonds

The fonds consists of military papers, photographs and postcards from Mr. Basly’s time in the French military; leases and records concerning his farm; two photographs of him after the war; and papers detailing his relationship with Veteran’s Affairs. There is also a paper written by Paulette Hrychiw, based on the papers in his collection and supplemental research, detailing his movements with the French Army and her memories of Uncle Gaby, with whom they lived from 1939 to the 1960s.
