Odin School

Odin School District 4318 was formed in 1928 and a school was built in 1931. This is a copy of a photograph from a Christmas card showing Odin School students in 1935. Students identified on the photograph are Alf Sandboe, Marlin Sandboe, Johanna Hornland, Elmer Bue, Martin Hornland, Clarence Christensen, George Slette, and Henry Matthies. Original belongs to Sylvia (Horneland) Hommy and was collected for the County Schools project by Jeanne Smith.

Thomas Burrows

Sargent Thomas Burrows (M25812) joined the army on Sept. 9, 1939 in Edmonton. He served in the Royal canadian Army Medical Corps - 4th Casualty Clearing Station. He went overseas Jan 25, 1940 and was overseas for a year. He was then sent home for medical reasons. He was diagnosed with lip cancer and treated in England and returned to Edmonton Feb 26, 1941. After returning to Edmonton, Tom worked as a caterer at the Sargent's Mess at the Prince of Wales armouries. Then he was stationed in Suffield, AB, at the Experimental Station for 4.5 years. He was discharged in Calgary, Oct 1, 1945.

David Burrows

David Sneddon Burrows (Lance Corporal) M104378 was 18 years old when he joined up with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Grande Prairie Oct 14, 1942. He went to Edmonton for basic training at the Prince of Wales Armouries. He left Edmonton Dec 29, 1942, for Chilliwack, BC, for advanced training until Sept 1943. Then he went to Hamilton, ON to the Canadian Army Training Center for 3 months, back to Chilliwack for 2 months, then to Truro NS for three months. Then he was off to England and was involved in the invasion of Normandy, Juno Beach. He went into Caen, later up into France and Holland. Eventually he was back in England and then home in 1945.

James Pollock

M55649 Cpl. James Pollock, age 41, Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, joined up in Calgary, July 24, 1940 and served in Canada until May 21, 1947. In Dec 1940 he was transferred to Victoria and worked as an ambulance driver with R.C.A. Medical Corps. Then he was transferred to the R.C.E. stationed in Victoria. He was discharged in 1947 and drove fire truck out of Work Point Barracks.
