The collection consists of photographs that represent the work of a number of photographers, including Eric Hegg, E. E. Keir, Adams & Larkin, Case & Draper, H. J. Goetzman, Cantwell, Hamacher & Robertson. The majority of the photographs were taken between 1897 and 1900. Images of Dawson City and the settlements along the creeks constitute the bulk of the collection, which also includes images along routes to the Klondike. Specific locations include Bennett, Bonanza Creek, Dawson City, Dyea Trail, Eldorado Creek, French Hill, Grand Forks, Hunker Creek, Miles Canyon, King Solomon's Hill, Dominion Creek, White Pass Trail, Skagway and Whitehorse. Images are of mines and mining, agriculture, street scenes, boat building, sternwheelers, First Nations graves, miners, pack-trains and roadhouses. There are also images of the North American Trading Co., the North West Mounted Police, (NWMP) the Orpheum Theatre, the White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) and the Yukon Order of Pioneers (YOOP) as well as a number of individuals.

The fonds consists of photographs of White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) passenger trains, 1898-1899, taken by Barley and Case & Draper. The textual record is a 1983 biography of Frank Whiting, written by his grandson Robert Whiting, detailing in particular his involvement with the WP&YR.
