South Peace Regional Archives Photograph collection

The collection consists of photographs relating to the history of the South Peace River Country of Alberta. These photographs were donated by various donors to South Peace Regional Archives after it was established in 2000, and are not associated with a fonds. Photographs range in date from ca. 1880-2003 and cover a range of subjects.

Lee Pooler fonds

The fonds consists of Lee's oral history of the time he spent as a weatherman for the U.S. Army Air Force at Little Smoky and Valleyview during World War II, a hand-drawn map of the buildings located near Little Smoky between Valleyview and High Prairie, and 22 photographs. There are 3 photos of Lee Pooler himself, 5 of the Royal Canadian Signal Corps station at Little Smoky where the first temporary weather station was located, 8 of the Weather Station on the hill north of Valleyview, and 6 of people or locations in the area.

Davis, Hodgson, Coulter fonds

Documents and photographs from the Davis, Hodgson and Coulter families. They include a parchment copy of an 1821 Last Will and Testament for John Davis, 1850 and 1856 probates of the will for John & Nancy Davis and their children; a 1902 Agreement for Sale of land and a 1916 lease by William Herbert Davis from St. Andrews, Manitoba; a 1930 mortgage for Robert J. Coulter at Bridgeview; three photographs of WW I soldiers from the Hodgson family, [25] photographs from St. Andrews, Manitoba; and two photographs of a WW II soldier.

Ray Menard Alaska Highway collection

The fonds consists of 92 photographs taken during the time Ray Menard worked as a mechanic and machinist on the construcion of the Alaska Highway between 1942-1943, including base camps, equipment and storage, winter road construction, summer construction, wrecks and spills, bridge work, and the Dawson Creek explosion. Included is a typed notation of photographs which have been identified and a newspaper article describing the Dawson Creek explosion and notes from an interview conducted by Linda White, his daughter.

Elmer Borstad fonds

The fonds consists of Elmer Borstad's personal papers, records as alderman and mayor including pages from a large scrapbook, records and photographs of involvement with the Chamber of Commerce and Northern Alberta Development Council, a scrapbook of records (1978-79) related to his nomination as candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party and subsequent election as MLA for Grande Prairie, a scrapbook of records as chairman of the QEII Foundation and head of the MRI capital campaign (1997-1999), and records of his chairmanship on the Capital Campaign Committee for building additional student residences at GPRC. There is also a mylared copy of a full-page 1959 advertisement "marking 12 years of service to Grande Prairie & District" , a booklet "The Canol Adventure" written by Mr. Borstad, and a photograph album detailing Elmer's involvement with RCSCC Micmac Squadron Sea Cadets (1955-1966), including photographs of the first Wrenette Corps in Alberta established in Grande Prairie in 1957.

Harry Tuffill fonds

The fonds consists of photographs, postcards, and a publication from United Grain Growers. Of the 327 photographs, 110 portray surveying in the Peace Country from 1909 to 1911, 5 picture life on the Tuffill homestead, and the remaining 212 are of Mr. Tuffill’s service in WWI and family and photographs from England. There are also 72 postcards from Canada and abroad.

The fonds consists of family genealogical records, documents, diaries, correspondence and photographs from the Campbell, McGuire and Brewer families; documents and photographs to the Campbell homestead at Halcourt; a collection of artwork, including a set of hand-made Christmas Cards drawn by Myrle and Isabel in the late 1920s; personal and business correspondence; historical writings by Isabel Campbell; records from Miss Campbell’s home in Grande Prairie; a reference collection of photographs, maps, and clippings files relating to Peace Country history; a set of glass negatives created in 1936-37 by Cameron White of the White Studio; and memorial records from Isabel’s funeral.

Vader-Grimm Family fonds

This fonds contains records related to the Grimm, Vader, and Scott families. The material is largely concerned with time spent in Rycroft but this fonds also contains records created in Nebraska, Spirit River, and Calgary. The records consist of approximately 1500 photographs and negatives depicting farm life, school classes, locations, and people; newspaper clippings, pamphlets; posters; 2 family histories; 2 undated and unlabeled photograph albums; account books; and certificates.

The fonds has been arranged into the following series: Vader Family (1800-1980), Grimm family (1800-1980), and Ora and Edith [Vader] Grimm (1908-2008).
