Fonds consists of records pertaining to the career of George William Rance who worked with the photography division of the Associated Screen News (ASN) travelling the world aboard the Empress ships. Rance also worked in the camera shop in the Banff Springs Hotel, Banff, Alberta and ASN's Head Office in Montreal, Quebec. Fonds consists of Associated Screen News photographs of Cochrane to Banff motor road, Banff townsite and environs, Banff-Lake Louise road, Mount Assiniboine, Waterton Lakes National Park, ca.1925. Also included in the fonds are photographs of various cruise destinations of the CPR Empress Line including Grenada, Rio de Janeiro, Martinique, Barbados, and the Empress of Australia, ca.1938 and 1 William Notman & Sons photograph of the Bow River Bridge and Cascade Mountain, ca.1905.

Robson, Wapta Glacier, Columbia Icefields, Canoe Glacier, Rodgers pass trip, mountaineering clubs, Trudeau/Bugaboo trip, Assiniboine Lodge, portraits of Lizzie Rummel, Erling Strom, and Jim Davies. Albums consist of photographs taken during ski trips in Austria. Films depict a mixture of skiing and climbing including spring skiing, powder skiing, glacier skiing on Columbia Icefield, heli-skiing in the Rockies and Selkirks and ascents of Mount Logan, Yukon, and Mounts Blackburn and McKinley, Alaska, also rock and ice climbing. Feature length films consist of, or are accompanied by, all or some of the following elements: 16mm originals (A and B rolls); work prints, out takes, 16mm mag track (sound); 1/4" audio tape (background music to accompany narration, 7 items); teasers (TV film clips) and the following items included in the textual records: narration scripts, teaser text, descriptive flyers, press releases, annual pamphlets and ad solicitation for same, censor certificates, related correspondence, maps, oversize promotional posters for Gmoser's films "With Ski and Rope" 1957, and a handmade poster by Banff Ski Runners for "Adventure Bound" and related ephemera.

Includes excerpts from the Glacier House Scrapbook, 1897-1910; papers on human history, glacier study, skiing, avalanches, Glacier House and Glacier National Park; and information booklet on Golden, B.C. Sound recordings are interviews by John Marsh with Cecil Smith at Salmo, B.C., and Rick Ryckman at Trail, B.C., November 1979, as part of research on the history of Glacier National Park, Glacier House and the Nakimu Caves. Recordings include information on railway operations, personnel, maintenance, accidents, buildings and facilities, landscape, personalities, and events at Glacier, B.C. and the Nakimu Caves, 1917-1930.
