Alice B. Donahue Library and Archives fonds

The fonds consists of materials created by the Alice B. Donahue Library and Archives and its predecessors between 1946 and 2009.The fonds consists of bylaws, minutes, correspondence, financial records, fire insurance policies, account books, membership lists, accession and statistics books. Included in the photographs are: Violet (Mills) Aldridge, Kathy Begoray, Sandy Bulmer, Mike Cardinal, Lionel Cherniwchan, Louis DaCosta, Alice B. Donahue, Teddy Dunn, Frank Falconer, Judy Flax, Jane Gordon, Cynthia Graefe, Barbara Hunter, Joseph William Irwin, Doug and Heather Kariel, Jerry Little, Betty McDonald, Don McGladdery, Joseph Martynek, Marilyn Mol, Phylis Mort, Amanda and Erica Oldale, Viola Elizabeth Overholt (Jouston), Betty Pickett, Irene Robbins, Lydia Silkie, Kathleen Stafford, Linda Steppan, Robert Tannas, Kathy Traynor, David Yowney and Karen Zwarich. The students in a 1990/91 photograph of the Hutterite Colony School visiting the library are: Johnny, Rhoda, Debbie, Walter, Philip, Julia, Edward, Michelle, Steven, Aaron, and Albert Gross, Betty Stahl and Mrs. Phyliss Mort. Other materials transferred to the archives include an essay written by Nadine Molofy for the Correspondence School Branch in 1948-49 which also includes a photograph of W.H.Swift; the 1981 Canada census information on mother tongues spoken in the Athabasca area; and a program of the 3rd Spring Showcase of local talent library fundraiser in c2001. In 2003, photographs were taken when new carpeting was installed in the library and archives. A recent donation of planning materials for Athabasca Pottery Discovery Day, June 21, 2009 includes correspondence, budget, itineraries, media release, and poster proofs. The fonds consists of the 1955 official opening program and Edmonton Journal article for Edwin Parr School; a 1955 article by Nick Evasiuk in the Alberta School Trustee magazine; 1950s graduation and school dance programs; student publications (23.03) "Whispers," 57-58, n/d, 60-61, "Dreams, Themes and Schemes," 58-59, "Junior Hi-Lites," 57-58; 09.19; EPC student union minutes and expenses books from 1955 - 1982 (not all years are included); 1968 official opening of the south wing, a 1970 article on an Athabasca Preventive Social Services sponsored summer work program for high school students; some 1973-75, 1987, 1990 school newspapers; 1972 Education Week handouts including a staff list; 1974 and 1987-88 EPCHS handbook; the 1982 EPCCS charter; programs for EPCCS drama productions; 1982 Nature Science class certificate for donating a star at the Edmonton Space Sciences Foundation; a 1984 history of the schools in Athabasca and a 1987 Awards Night program. E.P.C. Expressions: Literary and Visual Arts Magazine, issues# 1-4 (Nov.05 to Jn.06) and issue#2 (April, 2007) were added. The nine photographs produced by art students Marianne Trebell, Brandi Robert and Sherry Young were sold at the "Sights and Sounds of the Season" in 1999. In 1980 a band exchange named TarTrek 80 took place between EPC and G.A.Wheable Secondary in London, ON. Trip information is included. William Jones was the EPC band director.

The fonds consists of a draft copy of the results of Carrie-Ann's research: "The Athabasca Clay Products Company collection at the Royal Alberta Museum". A bibliography is also included. The Athabasca Clay Products collection at the Royal Alberta Museum began with a donation in 1986. In 2006 150 pieces of pottery were donated by the company's owners, Ed and Phyllis Polanski. In 2008 Carrie-Ann Lunde worked as an intern for the Royal Alberta Museum gathering information on the Athabasca Clay Products.

The fonds consists of 65 col. slides: 32 of Athabasca's Fiftieth Anniversary Celebration's parade and 33 of the 1967 production of the play "The Athabasca Story" . Bert wrote a letter to the Athabasca Archives in Oct. 2000 talking about his businesses and other activities carried out in Athabasca. Included was information about the town's 50th anniversary celebrations specifically "The Athabasca Story" play and it's author, John Havard.

The audio cassettes contain information on the Bissell family, logging operations and personnel.The artifact is a heart-shaped pottery ashtray, with brown and blue glaze, manufactured by Athabasca Clay Products.

Brick school classroom

Painting of a classroom in the Athabasca Brick School that was used as studio space by the Athabasca Art Club. Harry Wolfarth, art instructor with the Dept. of Extension, U of A, used to travel to rural Alberta to teach painting.
