Arnold R. Murray, M.D. fonds

The series consists of personal papers from the Sproule’s time in Edmonton and business records from his travelling practice in the Peace River Country, his office in Grande Prairie, and his practice in Edmonton.

The fonds consists of records relating to the business interests of C. S. Hook & Sons, including businesses run by the company and subsequent businesses related to the company, and personal records of various members of the Hook family. The records date predominantly from the 1940s to the 1970s. Geographically, the records relate to the Peace Country of Alberta and British Columbia, particularly Grande Prairie, where the head office was located and members of the family lived, and Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, and Peace River, where the business operated branch stores.

The fonds is arranged in two series: Business and Personal, each with several subseries. An order has been established by the processing archivist based primarily on the content and chronology of the records as the original order had been disrupted.

Queen Elizabeth II Hospital Auxiliary Association fonds

The fonds consists of records relating to the operation and activities of the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital Auxiliary Association and its predecessor bodies. The records include incorporation documents, constitution and bylaws, agreements, licenses, minutes and associated reports of the Auxiliary, minutes of various sub-committees and other committees the Auxiliary was involved in, reference information relating to the operation of an Auxiliary, financial records, correspondence, records related to Auxiliary projects and programs including bingo, casino, hair care, baby photos, gift shop, and bursaries and scholarships, information on volunteer assignments, written histories, photographs, newspaper clippings, and material relating to the Auxiliary’s interaction with associated organizations.

The fonds is arranged in seven series based on record content: Legal Documents, Minutes, Financial, Correspondence, Programs and Projects, Associated Organizations, and History, Photographs and Scrapbooks.

For the most part order has been imposed by the Archivist taking into account record types and the divisions used by the Auxiliary in its original binders and folders. Original order, where apparent, within files and divisions has been maintained in many cases, although some smaller files have been combined and miscellaneous records interfiled throughout.

Grant family fonds

The fonds consists of certificates from family members over three generations, letters from Ada McKeage to John Grant during their courtship, photographs of the Grant children, diaries and financial records from Alice Mary Short, and miscellaneous cards and letters. Included in the collection are the records of St. Andrew’s Women’s Auxiliary from Gladys, Alberta, dating from 1913-1923, for whom Mrs. McKeage was the secretary.

Jean Lowe fonds

The fonds consists of one family photograph and 7 scrapbooks containing clippings from local newpapers that dealt with mental health issues, drug rehabilitation, youth hostel, child care and homemaker issues. Jean was a recipient of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Lady of the Year award in the 1975 when she worked for Preventive Social Services Department. Her duties there included administration of Family Life Education, Community Services, Homemaker Services, Volunteer Service Bureau Assistance and Information Directory and Day Care Centers.

Lewis B. O'Brien, M.D., fonds

The fonds consists of a 1902 postcard from Dr. O’Brien to Miss Alice John from Germany; 29 over-sized pages of Surgeon’s Reports from 1927 to 1938 listing the name of Dr. O’Brien’s patients, their addresses, the diseases they suffered from and the amounts they were charged; 17 pages of monthly cash reports from 1941 to 1942 and one photo of Dr and Alice O’Brien. The surgeon’s reports date from both the old pioneer log hospital and from the new Municipal Hospital. An accrual includes Alice in a class photo and a biographical story written by her granddaughter, Margaret Bowes.
