The fonds consists of predominantly textual material with some original photographs, graphic material and ephemera. The 3.4 metres of records include bulletins, personal correspondence, executive and convention minutes from various social and political groups, newsletters, notes of 1940s radio addresses (CFRN), and photographs. Of particular note, the records document the activities of agrarian protest movements in the 1930s and 1940s. The Tomlinson records also document involvement with many other Alberta political groups from the 1930s to the 1980s. Amongst the groups documented, the records include early minutes of Canadian Commonwealth Federation meetings in Alberta, technocracy, early Alberta Federation of Agriculture documents, original Edmonton Labour Council minutes, newsletters from World War II Canadian internment camps, and meeting minutes and other documents from the Alberta section of the Communist party of Canada dating as early as the 1930s. The latter includes an original Karsh photograph of Tim Buck, former leader of the Communist Party of Canada.
