Alberta School Broadcasts collection

The collection consists of two Alberta School Broadcast songbooks: "Sing and Play" from 1954 -1955, by Jane McIlrena and "Music Makers" from 1960 - 1961 by Hazel Robinson. The collection also contains 33 transcription discs created for Alberta School Broadcasts featuring music and narrated books such as Ivanhoe. The discs also include broadcasts featuring information on explorers of the Northwest Territories including David Thompson, James Cook Henry Kelsey, Samuel Hearne, and Anthony Henday. The transcription discs date from 1948 to 1949. The audio cassettes consist of several episodes from the following series: World of Today, Alberta at Work, We Live in Alberta, Alberta Album, Adventure Time, and Pioneer Communities. These episodes likely date from the 1970s.

The fonds consists of material used, maintained and created by the Alberta Teachers' Association including correspondence and handbooks documenting the early activities of the Alberta Teachers' Alliance, a schedule of salaries, records pertaining to the activities of various locals of the association, issues of The ATA Magazine, reports, newspaper clippings, conference reports, blank letterhead, an ATA handbook, various government acts related to education, a 1934 Camrose Normal School yearbook, a photograph depicting the ATA general meeting in Edmonton, Alberta in April 1939, and a programme for the Second Edmonton District Alberta Teacher's Association Convention in 1968. This fonds has been arranged to include the following sous-fonds: Beaver Local Number (No.) 17 sous-fonds; Paradise Valley Sub-Local sous-fonds.

The fonds consists of materials used by Alexander Royick to produce a publication entitled "Ukrainian Settlements in Alberta" Canadian Slavonic Papers -- Revue Canadienne Des Slavistes (10.3) 1968 and includes images of maps created by Orest Phorecky of the Department of Anthropology and Archeology at the University of Saskatchewan illustrating Ukrainian settlements in Alberta in the 1800s. The article discusses an early Ukrainian explorer, Charles George Horetzky's, contribution to the settlement of Alberta.
