Sam Cohen was born in the Ukraine and he was brought to Winnipwg with his family in 1927 by his older sister and husband. Sam settled in Edmonton in 1952 and became active in the Jewish community. He directed choirs in the Beth Shalom, served as Chair of the Soviet Jewry Committee of the Jewish Community Council, was President of B'nai Brith Edmonton Lodge and the Zionist Council, a board member of Talmud Torah and National Executive Member of the Zionist Organization of Canada. He was the Negev Dinner Honouree in 1979. He married Sue in 1935, and they had one son, Mark.<br><br>
