General note

James Vincent Crough was born February 20, 1891 to Phillip and Margaret (Hickey) Crough at Ennismore, Ontario. His father was a descendant of Michael and Bridget (Carey) Crough who arrived in Canada from Tipperary, Ireland in 1825. James came to Alberta in 1912 and in 1913 settled in Leduc, Alberta and worked in the Livery Barn for his uncle John Crough. On October 15, 1917 during World War I he joined the Armed Forces in Edmonton. On January 11, 1918 he joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in Calgary and served in the 31st B.U. France. He served until July 12, 1919 when he was discharged in Kingston, Ontario.
