Biographical history
Isaac Taylor was born in Yorkshire and travelled to the Klondike (via Australia) in 1898. After mining and working on the construction of the White Pass and Yukon Route railway, Isaac Taylor joined with William Drury to found the firm Taylor and Drury. Taylor and Drury opened their first trading post in a tent in 1899, going on to establish a chain of Taylor and Drury stores throughout the north. Isaac married Sarah Drury, his partner's sister from England, in 1903. Their children were Florence, William D., Charles and Albert. Isaac Taylor died in 1959.
Custodial history
The films were donated by Isaac Taylor's sons, Charlie Taylor (with his wife, Betty) in 1989 and William D. Taylor in 1995. William Taylor loaned the YOOP certificate for copying in 1987.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of original 16 mm films taken by Isaac Taylor of life in the Yukon from the 1930s to 1950s. Scenes include: downtown Whitehorse, Miles Canyon, picnic and berry-picking outings, work in Mayo, activities at the Taylor & Drury store in Whitehorse, equipment, Sarah and Isaac Taylor and their home, Carcross, vacations outside the Yukon, Teslin, family, shots, carnivals and parades, ceremony to hand over the Alaska Highway to the Canadian Army, Champagne rodeo, fishing at Klukshu, the White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) railway, recreational activities at Marsh Lake and family gatherings. It also includes photocopies of Isaac Taylor's Yukon Order of Pioneers (YOOP) membership certificate dated January 1, 1915, as well as negatives of photographs taken of this certificate.

Original YOOP membership certificate was 53 x 43 cm and framed. The 3 negatives are on one 35 mm strip and are of the same view.

Permission to copy films 1 to 8 (or the videocassette copies) must be obtained from Betty Taylor. After her lifetime, right to permit copying will transfer to her daughters, Verna Taylor Hart and Barbara Taylor. Fifty years after Betty Taylor's death, all rights transfer to the Yukon Archives. Permission to copy film 9 must be obtained from either William D. Taylor's daughter, Marilyn Taylor, or his son, Vincent Taylor.
