Dr. J. W. (Jack) Chalmers, a Superintendent of Schools in Sedgewick, Alberta, co-authored several textbooks in the early 1950's with Dr. H. T. (Pete) Coutts, a professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta, for use in Alberta schools.

Fonds consists of correspondence between Dr. J. W. Chalmers, Dr. H. T. Coutts, and their publisher, J.M. Dent & Sons (Canada) Limited, assignment books written by Chalmers and Coutts to accompany the series Poetry and Prose for Canadians, and a working copy of Safaris, written by Chalmers and Coutts.

Dr. J. W. Chalmers deposited these records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in two separate accessions, one each in 1972 and 1973.
Arrangement
Some of the textbooks deposited in accession PR1972.343 have been removed and transferred to the Glenbow Archives in Calgary, Alberta.
