Biographical history

James Garner, [ca. 1920]- , was trained as an anthropologist in the USA. He worked as Technical Director of Glenbow Museum, Calgary, Alberta in the mid 1960s. He returned to the USA where he operated an antiquities business and later taught school. These photos were gathered together as part of his personal collection, reflecting his interest in First Nations peoples.

The collection consists of photographs of First Nations people from the USA and Canada, including Navajo, Hopi, Crow, Pueblo, Inuit, Blood, Stoney, Haida, Paiute, Carrier and Kwakiutl (Kwakwaka'wakw).
