Biographical history

James Peters, 1853-1927, was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and joined the permanent artillery force at Kingston in 1877. He was stationed at Fort Garry, Manitoba, Montreal, Quebec, and Toronto and London, Ontario. He was involved in the 1885 Riel Rebellion (North West Rebellion) and then was given command of Battery "C" of the Royal Garrison Artillery in British Columbia. He was eventually promoted to Colonel and was given command of Military District No. 11 (British Columbia). He retired in 1910. James and his wife had six children, including F.H. and Mrs. F.L.
