History

Frank Oliver, Minister of the Interior, signed Jasper Forest Park into being on September 14, 1907, following a proposal for a railway line through the Yellowhead Pass. Jasper was Canada's fifth national park. Jasper Forest Park's boundaries fluctuated until 1930, when the National Parks Act finalized the area of the park at 4,200 square kilometres. Col. S. Maynard Rogers was installed as the first permanent Park Superintendent in 1913.
