Biographical history

Jean Helen Gauld, 1902?-1984, moved to Calgary, Alberta with her father around 1914. She won many awards for her Highland dancing, and by the age of 14 established herself as a professional dance instructor. She expanded her range to include ballet, ethnic, and modern styles. Later in her career she taught at Mount Royal College and the Montessori School of Calgary.

Custodial history

The fonds was acquired by Harold Shaer of Chinook Coin Shop Ltd. of Calgary.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of portraits of Jean Gauld in various dance costumes, and snapshots of her later in life.
