Biographical history

Jennie P. Shapka was the daughter of Maria and Demetro Shapka. The Shapkas traveled to Alberta to Homestead from Austria before the turn of the nineteenth century. They made their first home in Bellis, Alberta. The family later moved to Andrew, Alberta to homestead at Section 28, Township 58, Range 15, West of the 4th Meridian (28-58-15-W4). The Shapkas had 12 children. Jennie spent a good deal of her life collecting genealogical information on her family in order to write, and publish My Canadian Immigrant Parents. She also composed poetry, reminiscences, and short stories.
