Biografie

Demetrios Kouimgis, 1888-1981, was born in Hora, Turkey and came to Calgary, Alberta in 1911. He changed his name to James A. "Jimmie" Condon and operated several restaurants in the city including the Palace of Eats. He sponsored an extensive number of sports teams using the name "Jimmies" between 1921 and 1944, including hockey, baseball, rugby and soccer teams. In 1980 he donated four Greek statues to the University of Calgary, which were housed in the atrium of the Administration building. Over the years he worked closely with his brother Ernest Paul Condon, 1915-2007. Jimmie was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 1980. He and his wife Maria had no children.
