Biographical history
Teacher, Author, 1908- . Mr. Charyk taught at various rural schools in southern Alberta from 1928 until he moved to Hanna in 1954. There he served as principal of Hanna High School until his retirement in 1973. Among his numerous awards are a life membership in the Alberta Teachers' Association and his election as a Fellow of the Canadian College of Teachers. He is the author of the Little White Schoolhouse series, six books on the history of rural education. He is also active as an historical researcher and lecturer.

Fonds consists of these series: I Artwork [1968-1988]. Produced by several artists to illustrate the Schoolhouse series. II Correspondence (1964-1986). Includes rural teachers and students; publishers. III Galley proofs (1968-1985). IV Manuscripts (1983- 1988). V Photographs (1912-1986). Images of wartime service, career and community activities; items collected to illustrate the Schoolhouse series (820 images). VI Publications (1968- 1988). VII Research collection (1900-1988). Includes teaching materials; forms; sketches. VIII Scrapbooks (1942-1987). Sound discs (1971, 1983). Book launching and presentation album (4 items). IX Sound tape reels [1954-1967]. Mainly speeches and events in Hanna, Alberta (74 items). The records result mainly from the research for, and publication of, six books on the history of rural education in Western Canada.
