Biographical history

John Michael Stychin, born in Meanook, AB in 1935, was the son of Anthony Stychin and Mary (Romaniuk). His siblings were Olga, Ann and Carl. In 1955 he married Michaelle Wright and they had 6 children: Patti, Lori, Joey, Timmy, Penny and Terry. He worked for Hunter Motors in Athabasca before managing his own businesses which included Red Head Services, Purity 99, Stychin Gulf Station which opened in 1963, and Stychin Services Ltd., Satellite Systems, Automotive Parts & Accessories. John served on the Athabasca Town Council for 6 years. He died in 1986. The Athabasca water treatment plant was named the John M. Stychin Water-Treatment Plant in his honour.

The fonds consists of 8 video cassettes filmed by John Stychin in 1985 and 1986 relating to: 19th annual Fish and Game Trophy Night; Athabasca University opening June 15, 1985; 75th Athabasca Anniversary Kick-Off Night Jan. 25, 1986 and RCMP Musical Ride; play "Dirty Work at the Crossroads" April, 1986; Athabasca Agribition and Trade Fair and Athabasca Gun Club Annual Black Powder Shoot, June, 1986; 75th Anniversary Fireworks, Rededication Service of the Athabasca United Church, and 75th Anniversary Supper, Sept. 19, 1986; Christening of the stage coach, Athabasca Firemen's Ball, Edmonton Journal Anniversary Supper, Athabasca Celebration Committee, and Street Parade. There is also a notepad from Stychin Services Ltd.
