Biographical history

Marine biologist, Administrator, 1925- . J.R. Nursall joined the University in 1953 as a lecturer in zoology; he was granted full professorship in 1964. He has chaired the Department of Zoology for three terms, 1958-1960, 1964-1969 and 1974-1978, retiring in 1988. A specialist in freshwater biology and the anatomy of fish, he was president of the Edmonton Zoological Society and Chair of the panel on hazardous waste for the Environmental Council of Alberta.

Relates to Albertan and Canadian bodies, such as the Alberta Oil Sands Environmental Research Program, the Edmonton Zoo, and the Fisheries Research Board of Canada. III Personal (1953- 1987). Includes annual reports; applications; book reviews; correspondence; research grants. IV Research projects (1964-1983). Relates to Alberta lakes, particularly Wabamun; includes field notebooks. V Topical files, research, publications (1955-1982). Arranged alphabetically by subject; includes 6 motion picture film reels and ca. 67 photographs relating to publications.
