Biographical history
Joseph Arthur Daigneau, the son of Basile Daigneau, was born in 1868 in Sant de Grand, Quebec. He came west planning to join the Klondike gold rush but remained in Alberta. In c1907 he moved to the Athabasca area where he homesteaded NE18-66-22W4. He partnered with Romeo C. Farrell in a general store in c1909, built the Daigneau Block in 1911, a livery stable in 1913 and added a dairy barn in 1915. He later ran a feed mill and service station. He was active in church work, town council and the school board. In 1929 he was a delegate to the annual congress of the French-Canadian Association of Alberta. In 1912 he married Antoinette Campbell, daughter of Pierre Campbell who was originally from San Sebastion, Quebec. Their children were Josephine, who died as an infant, and Pierre Charles. Joseph died in 1954 in St. Albert, AB.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of a 1909 photograph of the Romeo C. Farrell General Merchant store with Lance Smith, Louis Menard, Romeo Farrell, Athela (LaRue) Farrell and Ray Varin; a photograph of the interior of the Farrell and Daigneau store with Hamel, J.A. Daigneau, Jim Demers, Moise Hogne and Romeo Farrell; and a membership certificate to the Union Saint Joseph du Canada dated June, 1906.

The membership certificate is over sized and has tears that have been mended.

The photographs were donated by Julianna Pylypuik, the certificate was donated by Isadora (Lines) Shank.
