Biographical history

Dr. Joseph P. Moreau was a doctor during the First World War and an orthopedist in Edmonton, Alberta. From 1957 to 1963 he was member of the Edmonton School Board. He was president of Association canadienne-française de l'Alberta from 1966 to 1967, working towards the amendment of the <em>School Act</em> so as French classes can be offered in schools and negociating for a television station in French in Alberta. He was also president of the Advisory Board of the Académie Assomption. Joseph Moreau would also become the first orthopedist of the Edmonton Oilers. There is a school in Edmonton named after him.

Custodial history

Sister Alice Trottier, who received the records from Joseph Moreau on September 11, 1980, deposited the records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1980.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of correspondence, briefs, reports, copies of acts and photocopied newspaper clippings regarding French language instruction in Alberta and the affiliation of the Collège Saint-Jean with the University of Alberta.
