Biographical history

Jack Deering was a CPR railway man from Medicine Hat during the 1940s-1970s. His career spanned the end of the steam train era and the introduction of the diesel electrics in the early 1950's. Both Jack and his wife Joyce were actively involved in the CPR railway unions principally the United Brother of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen and the Ladies Society of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen & Engineers. Jack served on many levels with the Brotherhood including Vice President in 1955 and President of the Local Cascade Lodge #342 in 1962-64. In 1968 Jack was involved in the unification that saw the dissolution of all of the former railway unions into the United Transportation Union local 362.
