Administrative history
The "Just Us" Club was founded in the fall of 1961 as a offshoot of the United Church ladies group at Glen Leslie. Mrs. Jeanette Wales identified the need for a community club to maintain ties amongst the women and to serve people in need in the Glen Leslie district. The club was named in January, 1962. Every member put a suggestion for the name of the club in a hat. Betty Nellis' suggestion of "Just Us" was drawn. There were 15 members in the first year. The club has undertaken such projects as bake sales, card parties, raffles, fashion shows, bazaars, and 2 cookbooks to raise money to help families in need and to support grous including the Heart Fund, the Cancer Fund, Crippled Children's Fund, Red Cross, the Food Bank, Camp Tamarak, Odyssey House, the Auxiliary Hospital, Wapiti Dorm and senior citizens' groups. Each year the group, which still operates, makes a quilt to give to one of their members. These quilts were entered in the Grande Prairie County Fair while it operated. They also make a quilt to have on hand for donation to a family suffering from a fire. Social activities include a Best Ball Golf Tournament and pot luck in June involving all the families and a Christmas supper in December for the club members and spouses.
