Biographical history

The Kinsmen Club was founded in 1920 by Harold A. Rogers of Hamilton, ON for Canadian men aged 21 to 45. The club concept is "fellowship through service within a community". The Kinsmen Club of Athabasca received their charter April 20, 1956. The first executive included: Doug Foster, Robin Wright, Stan Richards and Glen Osment. Some major contributions made by this club include: financial assistance for the construction of the arena, swimming pool, 2 playgrounds and a baseball diamond; organizing activities at the senior's lodge and other places; and raising money to donate to many community groups. For several years the club planned Athabasca's Klondike Days. From Feb. 13-18, 1966 the Kinsmen travelled the Athabasca Landing Trail by horse and wagon attempting to get data on the route used by the prospectors in the 1898 gold rush. The club dissolved in 2001.
