Alberta Alexander Knottner was born in Dawson City, Yukon August 14, 1914, and lived there from 1913 to 1918. She had four sisters including Ellen Phoebe (born July 10, 1909), Evelyn Merrill (born December 22, 1910), Nettie Irene May (born April 26, 1912) and Ruby Rachael (born July 12, 1917). Her father Albert Edward Alexander (born February 26, 1879) worked for the Yukon Gold Company and the Yukon Consolidated Gold Corporation (YCGC) on the dredges. Her mother, Catherine Merrill Potter, was born July 10, 1909. Alberta moved on to Vancouver from 1918 to 1920 and from there to California. She returned to visit Dawson City with her husband in 1984 and again for her 75th birthday in 1989.
