Biographical history

Leo Goelman was born in Edmonton in 1927. His father, Moshe, served as Principal of Edmonton Talmud Torah from 1926 until 1933. Mr. Goelman's family lived in Palestine from 1933- 1938 and then Montreal before returning to Edmonton in 1941 when his father, Moshe Goelman was re-appointed principal of Talmud Torah School, a position he held until 1954. Mr. Goelman was active in Zionist organizations such as Young Judaea, and after graduating from the University of Alberta, immigrated to Israel in 1950 with his wife Lenora Wochnow. Once in Israel, Mr. Goelman changed his name to Ari Goell.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of materials created by Leo Goelman (Ari Goell) of Edmonton, Alberta and Israel from 1927- 1999. The fonds consists of these series: 1. History (1999) The series consists of a history of his childhood and adolescence written by Mr. Goelman. 2. Photographs (1927- ca.1943) The series consists of photographs of Talmud Torah School graduating classes, Edmonton Hebrew School, and other organizations.
