Biographical history
Lewis Wood was born in Falkirk, Scotland in 1880, the son of Colonel Julius John Wood who was a surgeon with the British army in India. Lewis was educated in Switzerland and Edinburgh, where he apprenticed to make wooden patterns for the iron works. In 1904 he immigrated to Canada.In 1906 he filed on homestead SW6-66-22 W4 on the west bank of the Muskeg Creek. In 1912 he married Letitia Rice. Thery had four children: Julius, Isabel, James and William. Lewis made a living freighting to Wabasca and Pelican Portage in the winter. In 1927 he bought a sawmill and cut lumber. Lewis died in 1967. Letitia died in 1973.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of photographs of : freighting, Lee Goodwin, Athabasca Hudson's Bay Co. manager's house, Muskeg Creek, Tex Palmer and dog team, Pelican Wells (1920), sawmill, Richard Secord's trading post, Whiskey Trail,and Wood's log house. Also included is Jim Wood's book of poetry entitled:" Chips to light your fire and warm your heart " and Lewis Wood's duplicate certificate of title, dated July 4, 1913 ( the original certificate was issued Oct.22, 1908).

Immediate source of acquisition
Donated by James Hay Irving Wood, 1916- (Jim) in 1985. The photographs of Richard Secord's trading post, which was located on Bill Wood's farm, were probably taken by Jim or Bill Wood in the 1970s. (Photos# 813-817)
