Biographical history

The Light Opera of Edmonton began as "The Teen Aged Girls Chorus" in 1947 as a form of entertainment during the Second World War. Instead of disbanding after the war the group recruited male voices and produced light operas, especially the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. Musical Direction was provided by Eileen Turner and her husband Herbert Turner acted as producer. The group continued to encourage the musical training of young local singers recruited from Edmonton high schools.
