Biographical history

W. D. Lineham was born at Elma, Perth County, Ontario in 1863. He followed his brother John Lineham who had come west and settled in Okotoks in 1882. W. D. was a successful rancher, owning several thousand acres about three miles southwest of Okotoks. He and his first wife Sarah Struthers Lineham had five children, Tom, Jack, Bill, George and Minnie Bell; and he and his second wife, Mabel E. Kinnear Lineham had two children, Donald Kinnear and Margaret Coatsworth. W. D. died in 1927. Many of the Linehams living in the Okotoks/Turner Valley/Millarville areas are descendents of W.D. Lineham.

Custodial history

Robert and Janet Lineham of the Millarville area loaned the photographs to the Town of Okotoks Museum and Archives in January, 2002. The images were scanned and returned. Robert is the son of Jim Lineham, grandson of Thomas Lineham and great grandson of W.D. Lineham.

Scope and content

The fonds consist of 1 CD containing 55 images including family portraits; family gatherings in Okotoks; Upper Lineham Ranch; Boer War; early Creighton family homes in Milton, Ontario and Alexandria, Manitoba. Three b&w photographs of John Lineham and W. D. Lineham.
