Biographical history

Lloyd "Lefty" Gibbons, the eldest of John Richard Gibbons and Harriet (Sellick)'s three sons, was born in 1915. His father was a section foreman in Clyde and Vimy. The boys attended the Allbush School. Lloyd worked for many years at Edmonton Motors, and later in a lumber yard. His lifelong passion was baseball and he played on various teams including Beverly and Athabasca. In 1962 he married Elizabeth (Betty) Green and they lived in the Athabasca area until Lloyd's death in 1998. They had no children.

The fonds consists of a scrapbook of newspaper clippings about games and tournaments in which Lefty played. The photographs are of various baseball teams. There is also a one page sheet of a conversation between Betty Gibbons and Marilyn Mol regarding Betty's early life in Athabasca.

The Gibbons story is included in the Clyde history book: "Clyde, a place to call home". The Green story is included in the South Athabasca history book: "From out of the Wilderness". Lloyd was always known by the name Lefty.<br><br>Record No. 99.12 (Photo# 16673-16679)<br><br>
