Biographical history
Louis Davies Hyndman was born in Edmonton, August 21st, 1904. He graduated from the University of Alberta with his LL.B. in 1927 and was admitted to the bar in 1928. He was made King's Counsel in Februrary, 1940. He was a Bencher, Vice-President and President of the Law Society of Alberta. Among the firms he practiced with were Woods, Field, Craig and Hyndman, and Field, Hyndman and Owen in Edmonton. Major clients of the Edmonton firms were International Harvester Company, Huron and Erie Mortgage, Kraft Foods, The Edmonton Journal and Husky Oil. Mr. Hyndman was Master in Chambers in the Court of Queen's Bench in Edmonton 1969-1986. Around 1970, Hyndman began more actively to pursue his interest in the history of the legal profession in Alberta, particularly in Edmonton. He called his research project "The First Fifty Years", and gathered information on Edmonton lawyers, law firms and local history. He also published a number of articles on early Alberta legal history. He died January 30, 1993.

Fonds consists of historical material gathered by Hyndman in pursuit of research on the history of the legal profession in Alberta. Includes material such as newsclippings, photographs, draft articles, and other material. Also includes Hyndman's correspondence 1970-1985 regarding his research project. Arranged in two series: 1) Correspondence, notes and historical articles 1970-1985; and 2) Colected legal historical source material.
