Biographical history

Louise Vogel was born in Ottawa in 1905. She attended Calgary Normal School and began teaching in a rural school at the age of 17. Louise married Russell Johnston in 1928 and they farmed at Helmsdale until 1966. The Johnstons had four sons. Louise was active in UFWA, Alberta Education Council and the Provincial Curriculum Committee, among others. Louise was appointed to the Senate of the University of Calgary (1966-1969) and to the Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1982.

The fonds consists of: booklet entitled "Interesting Facts Concerning the City of Medicine Hat" (1913); 4 photographs (postcards) showing Medicine Hat: the flats and the CPR roundhouse, Toronto Street School, Alexandra High School, and Elm Street School ([ca.1915]).
