Biographical history

Lucien Villeneuve is the oldest of eight children, born to Eugene (Gene) Villeneuve and Ceona (Sally) Garand. Both parents worked in the Coal Branch where they met in the mid-1930's. His father, Eugene, worked as a dragline/power shovel operator in Coal Valley. They married in 1936 and left Coal Valley for Edmonton in 1948. Eugene died in 1952 but Sally is still alive and turning 98 on March 31, 2009. Lucien is the oldest. He was educated in Edmonton and Ottawa, taught school briefly in Edmonton, obtained an M.A. in Political Science, worked for 27 years for the federal government (15 years in the foreign service) and currently (2009) is the Executive Director of Alberta Computers for Schools. His wife Loretta and he have four children.

The fonds consists of records relating to the life of former residents of Coal Valley and consists of photographs and a short overview.

Lucien Villeneuve deposited these records in the Hinton Coal Branch Archives in 2007.
