History

The Lutheran Campus Ministry-Western Canada grew out of an Inter-Lutheran (Lutheran Council in Canada) Committee on Universities and Colleges which intended to cooperate on providing spiritual service and ministry to young people on Canadian University Campuses. There was a desire to work together between the different Lutheran synods in order to stretch limited resources (both financial and human). Once the Lutheran Campus Ministry was created it was divided between regional boards to reflect the administrative jurisdictions in the participant churches. The Western Canada Regional Board most closely approximated that of the Alberta-British Columbia District of Lutheran Church-Canada. Campuses included in this jurisdiction were the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, University of British Columbia and University of Victoria.
