Biographical history

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League of the Alberta-British Columbia District was formed in 1954. The League was established as part of the International Lutheran Women's Missionary League of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The purpose of the League was to support Lutheran Missionary activities around the world. The Alberta-British Columbia League was divided into numerous local zones around the two Provinces. The Alberta Zones were Parkland, Peace River, South Alberta, Evergreen, Concordia and Parkland. The British Columbia District Zones were Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Kootenay, Okanagan, Fraser Valley and Cariboo. In 1993, at the International Lutheran Women's Missionary League's Convention held in Edmonton, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Alberta-British Columbia District came under the jurisdiction of the newly formed Lutheran Women's Missionary League-Canada.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of constitutions of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Alberta-British Columbia District, bylaws, minutes, correspondence, project files, zone histories,scrapbooks, photographs and films. The fonds also includes minutes and reports of various zones within Alberta and British Columbia as well as League cookbooks dated from 1935 - 1980.

Includes 50 photographs, 2 scrapbooks, and 35 mm films.

Immediate source of acquisition

The records were acquired from Mrs. Margaret Henke, League Archivist and deposited through a number of accessions from 1983 to1997. The records continued to be deposited at regular intervals by Carole MacKay, League archivist, with accessions from 1998 through 2000. Gifts of records were also obtained from Ellen Witte in 1994, Anna Wagner in 1995 and Doreen Schole, 2003.
