Notice biographique
Miss Margaret Crang was a lawyer, alderman and political activist. She was born in 1910 and was the daughter of the Edmonton pioneer doctor Frank W. Crang. She was educated in Alberta receiving her Bachelor of Arts in 1930 and LLB in 1932 both from the University of Alberta. In 1933 she graduated from the School of Education and began her own law practice in 1934. In the fall of 1933 she was elected to the first of four terms as alderman on Edmonton City Council, making her one of the youngest persons ever to be elected to civic government. Her left wing political viewpoint involved her in peace and youth organizations and took her on a trip to Spain in 1936, where she met Professor Scott Nearing, an intellectual leader in the American Communist movement. Margaret Crang died in Vancouver in January 1991.
