Biographical history
Marguerite Schumacher received her basic nursing training in Winnipeg, a BscN from Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, and MA and EdM degrees from Columbia University Teachers College, New York City. Before she came to Alberta she held several administrative positions, including director of nursing at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. She was appointed Advisor to the Schools of Nursing in Alberta, holding this position from 1958 to 1968. She then became coordinator of the Health Sciences Division and first director of the Nursing Program at Red Deer College. In 1973 she was appointed dean of the Faculty of Nursing, University of Calgary. Miss Schumacher was active in the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses and the Canadian Nurses Association, holding executive and committee positions in both organizations.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of news clippings about Marguerite Schumacher (1964-1973), monographs, reports and studies she wrote and collected (1968-1970s), and one speech, "Reflections on the Process of Change" (1989).
