Biographical history
The Markerville Good Neighbors Club was formed in January 1935. A group of local women decided that the formation of a ladies community group might be a means of providing mutual aid to each other and general assistance to the community. At first the group was active in supporting the Red Cross, the Canadian Institute for the Blind, and the Cancer Association. As time passed, the group recognized other areas of need, Ronald McDonald House, STARS, Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter, and the Canadian Mental Health Association received support from the Club. The Club was active locally as well raising money to fund its various projects. Along with these more formal activities, Club members also sent cards to those celebrating weddings, or those mourning the loss of a family member. As the club entered the 21st century, many members were of an advanced age, and much of the work that needed to be done became more difficult, therefore on June 2003, members decided that the club be dissolved.
