Biographical history
Martha Gudlaugson arrived in the south Peace in 1911 with her parents Magnus and Olina Gudlaugson, who came from Manitoba. They homesteaded in the Clairmont area, and the children attended Wellington School, which began as a school on skids in their farmyard. Martha trained as a teacher at Camrose Normal School and came back to the Peace Country to teach at the following Schools: Wapiti, Wembley, Bezanson, Currie, Clairmont, Homestead, Kleskun Lake, East Smoky, and Morning View. After many years of teaching in the Peace, she moved with her husband, J.W. Callister, to Vancouver Island, where she continued teaching until she had taught for 40 years.
